Gorey Courtown Forest Park Ltd. (GCFP) evolved from what began as a local development association. The members were local business people who volunteered their time and effort with the aim of generating employment by improving and expanding tourism attractions of the North Wexford area.
Gorey Courtown Development Association, the original name of Gorey Courtown Forest Park Ltd., was established in response to a local need in 1990. It had come to the notice of some local people that Coillte had sold some of its woodlands to the owner of a holiday home in the area. This sparked a fear that the main woodland might be sold off to a private developer and would therefore be lost to the village and north Wexford area as a local amenity.
A group of 8 local business people got together and formed the association with the specific aim of purchasing the 60-acre woodland and developing it as a public amenity for both locals and holidaymakers. An approach was made to Coillte and the 60 acre woodland was purchased.
To further develop the area, holiday homes and a state of the art leisure centre were built. To find out more about each of the exciting stages of the development of Courtown Woodlands please click on the links above.
